The History of Our Club
It all started with a cruise…
The Car Crazy Cruise was an idea hatched by several friends with a love of muscle cars who needed a reason to get them out of the garage for a drive. In August 2009, during the 14 hour drive back from the largest car cruise in existence (Woodward Ave) we said: “We have got to get a cruise organized. There just have to be other muscle car drivers in our area that would love to cruise.”
After the first three cruises in the fall of 2009, several of the cruisers started having discussions of forming a club. We felt the area needed a club that would fill the void left by other local clubs. We also wanted a group that could keep the monthly Car Crazy Cruise alive. Thus Lowcountry Muscle Car was born.
Our club has grown and become very active since its inception. The club started a monthly gathering of a few friends than shared an interest in American muscle cars. These gatherings continue today, meeting each month at Sonic Drive-in (660 College Park Rd.) on the 1st & 3rd Saturday, all year round, rain or shine.
Some members attend car shows, though the majority of us just enjoy driving our vehicles. On occasion a group of members will attend a car show, generally in the Charleston area. Additionally, the club has become involved autocrosses, drag days, destination road cruises, cruise-ins, hosting car shows, picnics, and more.
The Club has no formal fund raising effort. Our operating expenses are covered by annual dues, t-shirt sales, and other methods. We are a not-for-profit club, and we do not try to raise moneys beyond what is needed to cover the costs of club liability insurance, and specific events or activities. Dues are $20.00 per year for a family membership. Membership includes a club membership card for discounts at certain local businesses, two LMC club decals, access to the member’s only section of our website, and a subscription to our quarterly newsletter.
The Club meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month at various locations around the area and the locations are either discussed at a previous meeting or announced via email. Currently we are meeting at Sticky Fingers Smokehouse, 1200 N Main St, Summerville, SC 29483
Though the club is active and does a lot, the best part of the Club is its members. The Club has been blessed with a super group of folks who are all engaged and ready to contribute. We pride ourselves on the absence of formality and complicated by-laws, and appreciate that we simply want to enjoy each other’s company and the common interest of driving our cars.
